Natural Spaces in the Municipality of Cartaya
Heritage / Educational Activity - Environmental
The municipality of Cartaya covers 22,643 hectares, of which 61.471 hectares are comprised of natural areas of high ecological and scenic value. The vast extent of its natural area is noteworthy, as is the high diversity of ecosystems, habitats, and species. The most significant are the “Marismas del Rio Piedras y Flecha de El Rompido” Natural Area, “Laguna de las Borreras”, “Tuberas del Lancón”, and ”Laguna del Águila”, which allow for the coexistence of very characteristic species.
The area is designated as a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA2002). Located at the mouth of the Piedras River, it comprises a tidal marshland separated from the Atlantic Ocean by a sandbar formed by marine aeolian deposits resulting from river flow, tidal inflow, longshore drift, and the prevailing southwesterly winds. The geomorphological dynamics of this sandbar are unique along the Andalusian coast, stretching over 12 kilometers, and its average growth rate over the last century has exceeded 30 meters per year.
Our commitment is to publicize and preserve this biodiversity, promoting responsible and sustainable tourism.
Ambassadors School 2025
Heritage / Educational Activity - Environmental
During the month of February, we are resuming the "School of Ambassadors" project, an educational, tourism, and cultural project whose main objective is to provide children with a unique and enriching educational experience through guided tours of Cartaya's main monumental and historical sites, seeking to raise their awareness of the invaluable heritage that surrounds us. During this activity, participants will not only have the opportunity to explore the cultural and environmental heritage of our surroundings, but will also be encouraged to foster attitudes of behavior and civic responsibility. We strive to instill values of respect for the cultural and natural heritage that surrounds us, encouraging children to be ambassadors of their own environment. As a final touch to the activity, as every year, they will be awarded their ambassador diploma.

Ecoembes
Heritage / Educational Activity - Environmental
Throughout the summer, citizen awareness campaigns are held in collaboration with Ecoembes to work toward a waste-free world, promoting the importance of public participation in the recycling process in order to reduce the volume of waste generated. The objective is to raise awareness about environmental issues and medium- to long-term sustainable development, always through optimal operation of waste and its treatment. This initiative seeks to increase environmental awareness among visitors to the beaches of the municipality of Cartaya and increase levels of municipal selective collection. To encourage recycling, tents are set up with small selective collection containers to facilitate, through examples such as sorting and recycling the different types of waste generated. In addition, recyclable materials were used, allowing attendees to create badges with their favorite designs.
